Pig Farm Transformed Into ‘Thriving’ Specialty Mushroom Operation

The Faaborg family has successfully transformed their former pig farm in Radcliffe, Iowa into a specialty mushroom growing operation, becoming a hub for The Transfarmation Project. Previously a confined animal feeding operation (CAFO) raising 8,000 pigs annually, the farm now focuses on sustainable mushroom cultivation, showcasing a shift away from industrial agriculture.

Through collaboration with The Transfarmation Project, the family has converted one of their barns into a space for growing specialty mushrooms, emphasizing the potential for profit and innovation in alternative farming methods. The farm also serves as a demonstration hub for sustainable agriculture, offering research opportunities and hosting visits from those interested in a more stable and ethical approach to farming in the US's largest factory farming state.
