Plant-Based Performance Foam From von Holzhausen Targets Petroleum Midsoles

Material innovation company von Holzhausen has introduced a plant-based performance foam as part of its Liquidplant platform, which aims to create materials entirely from plant inputs. The foam, showcased at the NW Materials Show in Oregon, is designed to match the performance, comfort, and durability of petroleum-based midsoles commonly used in footwear. The material, made from plant-based polymer pellets, has undergone testing for cushioning, energy return, and durability.

von Holzhausen's Liquidplant foam is positioned as a replacement for petroleum-derived plastics like TPU, EVA, PEBA, and silicone in various applications, from wearables to injection-molded components. The company's focus on developing plastic-free materials aligns with their previous products like Banbū and Technik, both created using sustainable materials. CEO Vicki von Holzhausen emphasizes the importance of performance in shifting away from harmful petroleum-based materials, stating that Liquidplant proves plant-based solutions can meet the needs of today's demanding applications.
