PoLoPo Announces Strategic Shift to Focus on High-Protein Potatoes for the Snack Industry

PoLoPo, a deeptech company specializing in high-protein potato varieties, has shifted its focus to the snack industry. Their patented potato variety contains up to three times more protein than conventional potatoes, allowing for the production of high-protein chips without the need for new equipment or added ingredients. The company anticipates receiving USDA clearance for its bioengineered potato varieties by the end of the year, aiming to meet the rising demand for high-protein products in a cleaner and faster way.

Having previously succeeded in molecular farming, PoLoPo is now concentrating on increasing native potato protein in order to commercialize more rapidly. They recently completed a successful field trial, producing protein-rich potatoes, and are currently working on developing high-protein chips through a pilot program with manufacturers and brands. While they remain committed to molecular farming and protein ingredients, the chips market offers speed, scale, and regulatory clarity, making it the ideal first step to introduce engineered potatoes to consumers in the form of everyone's favorite snack.
