Poultry Producer Plukon Food Group Continues Alt Protein Strategy by Acquiring Plant-Based Brand Vega Insiders

European poultry producer Plukon Food Group has acquired Dutch plant-based brand Vega Insiders, part of the Zilverwerf Group, as part of its strategy to integrate alternative proteins into its products. This acquisition allows Plukon to tap into the expertise of Vega Insiders in developing plant-based products, marking a significant step towards a fully vegetarian/vegan production site. Vega Insiders will continue to operate under its own name within the Plukon Food Group, with all employees remaining with the company.

Vega Insiders offers a range of plant-based products, including alternatives to kebab meat and a plant-based bacon brand called Grunchy. The decision to transfer the company to Plukon was driven by a shared set of values, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit between the two companies. Founder Mart Beniers of Vega Insiders expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that Plukon's market knowledge and mindset align well with the future growth of Vega Insiders, ensuring a sustainable future for the brand.
