Protein Industries Canada Announces Pilot Project to Develop Pea Protein Products for Families & Seniors

Protein Industries Canada has announced a pilot project in partnership with Louis Dreyfus Company and CDIC to develop new pea protein ingredients and food products. The C$48.7 million initiative aims to meet the rising demand for Canadian-made protein alternatives, with a focus on providing nutritious options for families and seniors. The project will bring new pea protein isolate to market, tested in food products developed by CDIC to improve taste and nutrition for an aging population.

The facility to produce the pea protein isolate is set to be operational by the end of 2025 in Saskatchewan, creating jobs and market opportunities for Canadian farmers. This investment, supported by Canada's Protein Industries Cluster, is seen as a step towards spurring Canadian innovation and driving economic growth in the agri-food sector. With a focus on sustainability and value-added agrifood products, this project aims to strengthen Canada's domestic food supply chain and provide Canadians with a wider range of nutritious and sustainable food options.
