Farm Girl in Ontario is incorporating Canadian faba and pea protein into its granola products to increase protein content and decrease retail prices, with Protein Industries Canada contributing $150,000 to the $254,000 total investment. Additionally, Body Energy Club in BC is reformulating its vegan protein powder line with Canadian pea protein, investing $199,000 in total with $149,000 from Protein Industries Canada.

With a focus on helping Canadian food companies replace imported ingredients amid global trade tensions, the program aims to support domestic sourcing and supply chain resilience. Previous cohorts have addressed a variety of plant-based subcategories like frozen desserts, flour milling, and plant-based burgers. Federal ministers have praised the program for contributing to job creation and industry strengthening, echoing the importance of making more products from Canadian-grown ingredients to align with consumer priorities and improve sustainability outcomes.
