Public Money, Plant-Based Future? Poland’s Ncbr Backs Alt-Protein Innovation

In Poland, the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) is investing millions in research and development, with a focus on alternative proteins. While traditional animal-based producers still receive the majority of funding, there is a growing momentum among alternative protein innovators. Companies like LabFarm and Tarczyński S.A. have received significant public support for their cultivated and plant-based meat projects, indicating a shift towards a plant-based future in Poland.

Dr. Joanna Łopacka, an expert at NCBR, notes a clear and increasing interest in alternative proteins, reflected in the quality and volume of project submissions and level of support provided. Although no funding competitions are currently exclusive to plant-based or cellular agriculture, these sectors are becoming more active within broader agri-food calls. NCBR is preparing new programmes to support innovation in these fields and encourages alt-protein entrepreneurs to stay informed, subscribe to updates, and apply for funding opportunities.
