Dutch biotech company Qorium has raised €22 million in Series A funding to scale the production of cultivated leather. The funding round included Invest-NL, LIOF, Brightlands Venture Partners, and Sofinnova Partners, among others. Qorium, which is known for cultivating animal cells to produce plastic-free materials with a lower environmental impact than traditional leather, will use the funding to expand its production and appoint a new director to its board.



The company has already established commercial partnerships and is installing new bioreactor systems at its Maastricht facilities. Qorium's CEO, Michael Newton, expressed confidence in the company's mission to transform the leather industry by creating sustainable and high-performance leather. With the new funding and support from investors, Qorium aims to bring its cultivated leather to market at scale, offering consumers a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional leather products.
