Quantum Processors Take on the Gelation Problem Holding Back Plant Proteins

Pasqal and True Nexus have collaborated to encode protein structures related to gelation onto neutral-atom quantum processors, a breakthrough in addressing the issue holding back plant proteins. This collaboration, supported by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, aims to understand, predict, and ultimately design protein functionality by bringing chemistry onto quantum hardware. The long-term goal is to create a dynamic 3D model of gelation that can assist ingredient developers in designing plant-based alternatives for various industries.
The initiative, part of Vision 2030 and the proposed Saudi Quantum DeepTech Foundry, extends its focus beyond protein functionality to encompass various sectors such as energy, environmental technology, drug discovery, and finance. By leveraging quantum technology to tackle complex challenges in the protein industry, Pasqal and True Nexus aim to revolutionize the production of plant-based, halal, and regionally sourced proteins, addressing the growing demand projected to reach close to USD 1 trillion by 2030.
