RAF personnel have successfully advocated for the right to wear vegan-friendly uniforms at work, following a campaign by the UK's Ministry of Defence's Vegan and Vegetarian Network. Service members who identify as ethical vegans now have access to clothing and accessories that align with their beliefs, such as leather-free boots and wool-free berets. A six-step procurement process is initiated when vegans request alternative items, and all vegan apparel must meet safety regulations before being approved by senior officers.

The decision to provide vegan uniforms has received mixed responses, but the MOD's move is not unprecedented, as it had previously supplied vegan boots to an RAF pilot in 2019. The US military is also seeing a growing demand for plant-based options, with a recent survey showing that 81% of serving personnel are interested in access to vegan foods for reasons such as ethics, climate concerns, and health benefits. This shift towards accommodating vegan preferences reflects a broader trend towards inclusivity and sustainability in uniform design and provision.
