Raisio Secures EUR 4.5 Million to Develop Functional Fibre Ingredients from Grain Waste

Finnish food company Raisio has secured EUR 4.5 million in funding to develop functional fibre ingredients from grain processing side streams. The four-year research project, Valorisation of Grain Sidestreams for Functional Fibres, will focus on creating fibre ingredients with nutritional and technological applications while improving resource efficiency in grain processing. The project, supported by Business Finland and a consortium of companies and research organizations, aims to target new commercial opportunities in sectors such as dairy-free products, sports nutrition, and food fortification.

Raisio's new pilot plant at its Raisionkaari industrial site in Finland will conduct the research, which is part of the company's New Business operations. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, Raisio aims to leverage grain side streams into high-value ingredients with significant international potential. This project represents a significant addition to Raisio's innovation budget and highlights the company's commitment to developing new business ventures in the food industry.
