Raisio Sells Plant Protein Business to Finnish Dairy Giant Valio in €7M Deal

Finnish food company Raisio has entered into a €7 million deal with dairy giant Valio to sell its plant protein business, including the Härkis® and Beanit® brands. This decision is part of Raisio's strategy to promote the food transition towards plant-based products, despite the sale of this particular business. The plant protein business, with net sales of €4.5 million in 2024, will be transferred to Valio along with its 16 employees and the factory in Kauhava.

Valio, known for its dairy products, is expanding into the plant-based food market to meet the future demands of a growing global population. The acquisition of Raisio's plant protein business is seen as a strategic move to enhance Valio's product range and align with their vision for growth and innovation. Additionally, Valio has recently partnered with a Swedish biotech company to develop fermented fats for plant-based foods, further demonstrating their commitment to diversifying their offerings beyond dairy products.
