Rising Meat Prices Make Plant-Based Alternatives Cheaper in the UK

The cost of meat has increased significantly in 2025, with beef prices up by 52% compared to the previous year. This shift is driving consumers towards plant-based options, as the price of vegan alternatives has either remained stable or decreased.

Green Alliance is urging the UK government to invest in the plant-based meat sector to further develop innovative and affordable products. Replacing a portion of weekly meat consumption with vegan alternatives could have health benefits, such as increased fiber intake and decreased saturated fat. By establishing a £30M plant-based innovation fund and implementing measures to support the growth of plant-based products, the government could help meet climate change targets and promote healthier eating habits among consumers.
