Romanian startup Terra Wave has secured a €1.2 million EU innovation grant to scale its fermentation technology, aiming to produce next-generation fermented proteins for various industries. The company's fermentation process transforms fungi-based biomass into protein-rich, meat-like textures, catering to the meat, plant-based, and pet food sectors.

Founded by former R&D Manager of Verdino Green Foods, Alexandru Jeican, Terra Wave aims to revolutionize the protein industry by developing sustainable and cost-effective protein solutions. Jeican believes that fermentation is a breakthrough technology that can offer valuable nutritional value, taste, texture, and scalability while reducing costs. The company has already partnered with leading researchers and specialists in biotechnology and food science, as well as collaborating with Tetra Pak for industrial process tests.
