San Diego’s First Vegan, Gluten-Free Ice Cream Shop Opens Friday

Kula Ice Cream, San Diego's first vegan and gluten-free ice cream shop, is set to open its storefront this Friday. Founded by Libby Lefanowicz in 2019, Kula has been serving up plant-based ice cream at pop-ups and select retail locations for the past two years. The company's mission, represented by the Sanskrit word "kula" meaning inclusion and belonging, is to offer allergy-friendly frozen treats to the community.

At the new scoop shop, customers can choose from 12 delectable flavors, including classics like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and unique options like Unicorn Poop and Watermelon Chip. Each scoop comes with a house-made waffle cookie, and the ice cream is crafted with nut and seed bases to cater to various dietary preferences and allergies. The grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 6th, at noon, with regular hours from noon to 6pm Wednesdays through Saturdays. Kula Ice Cream aims to be a sweet retreat for all who walk through its doors.
