Schuman Cheese, Good Planet Foods Form Joint Venture for Better Plant-Based Dairy

Schuman Cheese and Good Planet Foods have formed GPV Foods, a joint venture in the US to create improved non-dairy products, specifically plant-based cheese. The partnership between the legacy player and the startup will leverage Schuman's Vevan brand and Good Planet's retail business to meet the demand for tastier vegan cheese, utilizing olive oil as a key ingredient.

The joint venture, GPV Foods, will combine Good Planet's retail presence with Vevan's foodservice expertise, benefiting from increased production capacity and streamlined distribution. Despite challenges in the vegan cheese market such as poor sales and regulatory issues like the Dairy Pride Act, the partnership aims to push the boundaries of plant-based cheese and accelerate growth in the category.
