Scoular Adds Second Soybean Dehulling Line in Ohio as Plant-Based Beverage Demand Climbs

US agribusiness Scoular is meeting the rising demand for dehulled soybeans used in plant-based products like soymilk by adding a second soybean dehulling line at its Covington, Ohio facility. Expected to be operational by mid-2027, the facility already has cleaning and color-sorting equipment in place, positioning it well for the new dehulling line. Through this investment, Scoular aims to provide additional supply opportunities for growers who feed the facility with identity-preserved, non-GMO, and organic soybeans.

This expansion follows the successful addition of a dehuller at Scoular's Illinois site in 2023, which has been processing climate-smart soybeans for soymilk production. With manufacturers favoring dehulled soybeans for their higher protein concentration and faster water absorption, Scoular's General Manager Matt O'Hern anticipates continued growth in the plant-based beverage category. The decision to invest in the Ohio dehuller was driven by strong supplier relationships, as Scoular looks to provide its customers with a reliable, long-term supply of high-quality dehulled soybeans while creating opportunities for producers.
