Several Dead, Possibly Poisoned Cats Allegedly Littered This Egg Farm. That’s Just the Beginning

A whistleblower at Shady Brae Farms, a supplier for Sauder’s Eggs, reported to PETA about the horrific conditions at the farm. The allegations include dead cats, hens living in filth for months, workers neglecting injured birds, and over 3,000 birds dying during a heatwave. The farm also faced issues with overcrowding, mice infestation, and unsanitary conditions. Eggs were left on floors for days, and some were not refrigerated or washed for weeks.

The egg industry, including farms with various labels like "cage-free" or "organic," often mistreats animals, treating them as disposable once their egg production declines. PETA called for an investigation into the cruelty at Shady Brae Farms and urged consumers to consider the ethical implications of consuming eggs.
