Simple Planet Plans to Achieve Halal Certification After Signing MoU With Halal Science Center Chulalongkorn University

Simple Planet, a South Korean biotech startup, has signed an MoU with the Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand to conduct joint research in halal science and technology. The collaboration aims to establish halal Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) production facilities and achieve halal certification for cultivated functional food ingredients, making them accessible to the global Muslim population.

Founded in 2021, Simple Planet specializes in cultivated food ingredients such as alternative protein powders and fats with high-unsaturated fatty acids. The company has secured funding of around $8 million and recently developed a patented serum-free cell culture medium that eliminates the use of fetal bovine serum (FBS) in production. By developing cell lines from diverse species, Simple Planet aims to reduce the pressure on livestock and fish farming, promoting sustainable food production.
