Swedish company SMAQO, led by founder and CEO Ram Nair, has secured new funding to develop next-generation hybrid mycoprotein-based foods. The funding round was led by Good Startup, a venture capital firm focused on alternative proteins, along with other investors. SMAQO's proprietary fungi and production platform allows them to create high-protein foods with minimal environmental impact.

The company plans to use the funding to accelerate product development, scale their fermentation capabilities, and launch consumer products in the Nordic market by the end of the year. With strategic partnerships in place for international expansion in 2027, SMAQO aims to transform the food system by providing sustainable protein solutions. Founder Ram Nair expressed excitement at the support from investors to drive market entry and make a meaningful impact on climate and food security.
