Finnish company Solar Foods is making progress towards obtaining regulatory approval for its air-based protein, Solein, in the EU. The company has addressed inquiries from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) by submitting a detailed dossier containing manufacturing data, product information, and scientific evidence to ensure the safety, accuracy in labeling, and nutritional suitability of Solein. Solar Foods is now awaiting a final scientific opinion from EFSA and expects to receive EU Novel Food approval in 2026 after making significant progress in the application process.

Solein has previously received regulatory approval in Singapore in 2022 and obtained self-affirmed GRAS status in the US. Solar Foods aims for Solein to set a new standard in environmentally friendly nutritional protein and plans to initially focus on the Health & Performance Nutrition segment in the US. The company's recent appointment of a new CEO, listing on the Nasdaq First North Growth Market Finland, and partnership with Japanese food manufacturer Ajinomoto Group all support its ambitious growth plans as it moves towards global commercialization.
