Finnish air-based protein producer Solar Foods has revealed that its Factory 01 facility has reached production targets that allow it to operate at full capacity, producing 160 tons per year of its protein, Solein. Following successful production ramp-up after a maintenance break, the facility achieved a productivity of 1 g/l/h and an energy efficiency value of 2.7. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Solar Foods in the cellular agriculture industry.

The company now plans to further enhance Factory 01's productivity and energy efficiency by implementing improvements from its pilot facility, aiming to increase the annual design capacity to 230 tons by 2026 while reducing production costs. In addition, Solar Foods has announced plans to move forward with Factory 02, with a design capacity of 3.2 kilotons per year in its first phase and potential expansion in subsequent phases. By collaborating with strategic partners, Solar Foods aims to reduce financing needs for Factory 02 and streamline the implementation process, with a location decision expected to be made by the end of the year.
