South Korea’s SeaWith Partners with 3D Bio-Tissues to Lower Cultivated Meat Costs

UK-based biotech company 3D Bio-Tissues has signed a commercial supply agreement with South Korean cultivated meat developer SeaWith. Through the deal, 3DBT will supply its cell culture supplement, City-Mix®, to support SeaWith’s cultivated beef production, aiming to lower production costs. The agreement, valued at £300,000, is set to improve cell growth efficiency and decrease reliance on costly growth media, potentially reducing production costs by around 30%.

SeaWith, known for its seaweed-based meat alternatives, is working towards commercializing its cultivated beef products under the Welldone brand. Operating within Korea’s Regulatory-Free Special Zone, the company is supported by national policies aiming to advance food security and alternative proteins. 3DBT's City-Mix® supplement aims to boost production efficiency without genetic modification, supporting the viability of cultivated meat production at scale and aligning with SeaWith's sustainability and innovation goals.
