Spain’s Alimentos Sanygran Takes Over Nutrition & Santé’s Plant-Based Food Business

Spanish manufacturer Alimentos Sanygran has acquired the plant-based and organic business assets of Nutrition & Santé’s Iberia arm, including a factory and 60 employees. The deal includes the production facility in Castellterçol and the Natursoy brand, enabling Sanygran to expand its operational capacity in the development, production, and marketing of plant-based ingredients and finished goods. With the acquisition, Sanygran aims to establish leadership in Spain’s plant protein sector and respond to the increasing demand for healthy and sustainable food innovations.

Nutrition & Santé, owned by Japan’s Otsuka Pharmaceutical, has been operating for over half a century across various nutrition verticals. The transfer of assets to Sanygran comes amidst a 7.7% sales increase in plant-based food in Spain, with significant growth in non-dairy milk and yogurt categories. This acquisition is part of Sanygran’s growth strategy to meet the changing consumer preferences towards plant-based products and strengthen its position as an industrial partner in the food industry, aligning with the trend of consolidation in the alternative protein sector.
