Starbucks India has introduced a new menu item featuring local startup GoodDot's soy and pea protein mince to cater to the growing demand for plant-based protein options in the country. The Soya Protie Toastie offers 32g of protein per serving and can be customized to be vegan by removing the cheese.

However, the lack of clear messaging about customization options hinders Starbucks's plant protein initiative. Customers have to specifically request non-dairy milk for the protein cold foam drinks and ask for the cheese to be omitted from the new toasties in person, as these changes cannot be made on the mobile app. This communication gap may prevent many Indians from realizing that these offerings can be made plant-based, undermining Starbucks's efforts to promote alternative protein options in India.
