‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Urged To Remove Feathers From Costumes

An animal rights group has written to the BBC, urging the removal of real feathers from costumes on the reality TV show Strictly Come Dancing. The group, PETA, highlighted the cruelty involved in obtaining feathers, such as striking birds and forcibly restraining them to rip out feathers while conscious, as well as the risks of bird flu from factory-farmed birds.

The open letter to the show’s executive producer emphasized that feathers are falling out of fashion, much like fur, with high-profile designers moving away from animal products in their designs. The letter concluded by urging Strictly Come Dancing to follow suit and move away from feathers to align with the growing trend of faux feathers in the fashion industry.
