Study Finds 93 Percent Of Climate News Fails To Mention Animal Agriculture

A recent study found that major news organizations are failing to include animal agriculture in their coverage of climate change. Out of 1,000 articles analyzed, 93 percent did not mention the impact that livestock farming has on the environment. While articles often discuss mining, manufacturing, energy production, and fossil fuels, animal agriculture is a glaring omission in the conversation surrounding the climate crisis.

Despite the well-documented negative environmental impact of animal agriculture, media outlets rarely cover the significant role that meat and dairy production play in greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation. The study highlighted the importance of promoting plant-based diets as a way to combat climate change, as consumers would need to consume 70 percent fewer animal products daily in the United States to meet climate goals. By addressing this gap in coverage, the report aims to educate the public and encourage more sustainable consumer choices.
