Study Highlights Gap in Sustainability Policies Addressing Animal Agriculture’s Climate Impact

A recent study by the nonprofit Animal Outlook has revealed a significant gap in the sustainability policies of major US corporations, with none of the top 100 highest-earning companies addressing the environmental impact of animal agriculture. Despite animal agriculture accounting for over 16.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 37% of methane emissions, organizations have been neglecting this crucial aspect of climate change mitigation.

In response, Animal Outlook has launched the “Fight for Our Future” campaign, urging organizations to adopt plant-based purchasing policies to reduce their carbon footprint. While environmental nonprofits have been slow to implement such policies, 20 animal protection nonprofits have committed to solely spending their budgets on vegan food. The campaign also advocates for policy changes at high-profile events and at the local government level to promote sustainability efforts and make a positive impact on the planet and on animal welfare.
