Study: PEKILO®Pet Mycoprotein Ingredient by Enifer is Seven Times More Efficient Than Soy Protein Concentrate

A recent study by Enifer, a Finnish biotech company, has revealed that their mycoprotein ingredient, PEKILO®Pet, boasts a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to common pet food ingredients such as soy protein concentrate and lamb. With a total carbon footprint of only 0.93 kgCO₂e per kilogram, PEKILO®Pet outperforms other options by a wide margin, making it a more environmentally friendly choice for pet food production.

PEKILO®Pet, produced through biomass fermentation using a unique fungal strain, is a nutrient-rich ingredient that offers high digestibility, protein content, and beta-glucan fiber. Enifer plans to construct a new facility capable of producing up to 3,000 tons of PEKILO® per year by the end of 2025, aligning with their mission to offer sustainable, high-protein solutions to the pet food industry. Obtaining novel food approval from the European Food Safety Authority for PEKILO® demonstrates Enifer's commitment to providing innovative and environmentally friendly options for pet food production.
