Study: Precision Fermentation-Derived Chicken Protein Has Beneficial Digestive Effects for Dogs

In a study conducted by scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in partnership with Bond Pet Foods, the effects of chicken protein produced using precision fermentation on the digestive health of dogs were examined. By inserting chicken protein DNA into brewer's yeast and cultivating it in large tanks, a beneficial and safe protein source for dog food was produced.

Feeding 32 healthy adult dogs diets containing varying levels of brewed chicken protein for a six-month period resulted in positive changes in fecal metabolites and gut microbiota, with no adverse reactions. The brewed protein was found to be safe and nutritious, with potential benefits such as reducing inflammation. This research reinforces the promise of brewed chicken protein as a sustainable and effective option for pet nutrition, offering innovative solutions for improving the nutritional value of pet food products.
