A survey conducted by ProVeg in Germany’s out-of-home food service industry reveals a growing demand for plant-based alternatives. Eight out of ten food service establishments anticipate an increase in demand for these products in the coming years. However, businesses are facing challenges with inefficient packaging, product availability, and high costs of plant-based alternatives.

The survey indicates a preference for larger bulk packaging of plant-based products to reduce waste and improve planning efficiency. While satisfaction with taste and texture is high, concerns over cost, salt, and sugar content persist. To address these issues, ProVeg recommends manufacturers provide more transparent nutritional information and work to reduce markups, optimize ingredients, and emphasize health benefits. The findings emphasize the need for a more reliable supply chain to meet the growing demand for plant-based alternatives in Germany's out-of-home food service sector.
