Sweden’s Kale Foods Snaps Up Plant-Based Meat Brand Färsodlarna

Swedish vegan food distributor Kale Foods has acquired the Färsodlarna brand of plant-based meat from investment company Novax. Färsodlarna, known for its range of clean-label meat alternatives made from Swedish crops, offers products like plant-based mince, meatballs, burgers, and kebabs. The acquisition aligns with Kale Foods' goal of consolidating the Nordic plant-based food market by adding premium brands to its portfolio through strategic acquisitions.

The move comes at a time when meat consumption in Sweden is declining, with dietary guidelines promoting plant proteins and sustainability. This trend is reflected in consumer behavior, as polling indicates a growing interest in reducing meat consumption for environmental reasons. Kale United, the parent company of Kale Foods, views the acquisition as a strategic step forward to expand its plant-based footprint and create synergies in distribution, marketing, and sales within the growing alternative protein sector.
