The Body as a Manifesto for Animal Rights

Alfredo Meschi and photographer Massimo Giovannini have collaborated on a powerful and thought-provoking artistic project called In the Blink of an Eye, which serves as a manifesto for animal rights. Meschi has tattooed 40,000 small Xs on his body to represent the staggering number of animals killed every second due to human consumption. This project aims to raise awareness about animal exploitation and also draws parallels to other forms of systemic violence.

The project extends beyond Meschi's individual performance to include a global photography project capturing individuals with X tattoos. Through a series of diptychs, this project documents and immortalizes a moment in the Anthropocene. In addition to professional portraits, the movement has grown into a worldwide community, with supporters sending in their own X tattoo selfies. Through their art, Meschi and Giovannini have created a movement that challenges societal norms and inspires compassion and change.
