The Happy Egg Co Hit With ‘Landmark’ CMA Complaint

The Happy Egg Co is facing a complaint from animal welfare non-profit A Bit Weird for allegedly misleading customers about the welfare standards of hens on its farms. The complaint, filed with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), highlights discrepancies between the company's marketing depicting happy and well-cared-for chickens and the reality of overcrowded conditions and injuries documented on its farms.

This is not the first time The Happy Egg Co has been under scrutiny for its marketing practices. Previous complaints have been filed with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over allegedly misleading TV, radio, and internet adverts. Investigations have revealed cramped barns and mutilations on farms supplying The Happy Egg Co, contrary to its 'free-range' image. A petition has been launched calling for the company to change its name, and the CMA will now investigate the complaint to determine if consumer protection laws have been breached.
