The US Chains Still Charging Extra For Dairy-Free Milk

The No Milk Tax campaign group has published a report detailing which US coffee chains have dropped the surcharge for vegan milk, such as oat, soya, and almond milk, and which chains are still charging extra for non-dairy alternatives. Starbucks recently removed their non-dairy milk charge, with other chains like Panera and Pret A Manger following suit. The campaign argues that the surcharge could be viewed as discriminatory, especially considering the high percentage of Americans who are lactose intolerant.

On the 'Beans of Steel' list are those chains that have dropped the extra charge, while the 'Latte Losers' list features chains still charging between $0.50 and $1.50 extra for vegan milk. The No Milk Tax campaign is calling on all coffee chains to bring cheer to customers who prefer dairy-free options by eliminating the non-dairy tax, and a petition has been set up for support. It emphasizes the importance of accommodating customers with lactose intolerance, vegans, and those with environmental and animal cruelty concerns.
