Three Companies Have ‘Almost Complete Market Domination’ Of UK Poultry Supply

A new report has found that in the UK poultry supply industry, just three companies have "almost complete market domination," with similar trends seen in the dairy and meat processing sectors. This monopolization of the market is also evident in Spain and Italy, where a few companies control a significant portion of the pork, dairy, poultry, pig, and beef supply chain. This consolidation is linked to the rise of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) or factory farms, which come with various negative impacts such as pollution, reduced animal welfare, and increased health risks.

The report, titled "Revealed: Europe’s new meat tycoons," was a collaborative effort by researchers in multiple countries, shedding light on the operations of these dominant companies. The study highlights concerns about the quality and welfare standards of animal products as well as the growing health crisis associated with megafarms. Overall, the report calls for more oversight and regulation in the animal agriculture industry to address these issues.
