Time-Travelling Milkman (TTM) has partnered with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland on the Sunflopro project to create high-quality plant-based protein powder from sunflower sidestreams. The initiative, supported by EIT Food and the European Union, aims to valorize sunflower seeds by using a mild extraction process that consumes less water and energy than traditional methods. By sourcing European-grown sunflower seeds, TTM hopes to support local agriculture and reduce dependency on imported soy.

The Sunflopro project targets the upcycling of 550 tons of sunflower material by 2031, along with saving water and energy compared to standard soy protein production. Additionally, it seeks to open new market opportunities in dairy-free creamers, sports nutrition, infant formula, natural flavor encapsulation, and pharmaceuticals. TTM's CEO believes that innovation and sustainability can drive positive change, showcasing how circular manufacturing and protein diversification can create economic, social, and environmental value for the industry and society.
