Trader Joe’s Recalls Fresh Basil In 29 States Over Salmonella Fears

Trader Joe’s recently issued a recall of fresh basil products in 29 states and Washington DC due to the risk of salmonella. The recall, announced on April 17, follows a federal investigation linking a widespread outbreak of salmonella to fresh basil products, specifically the 2.5-ounce packages of Infinite Herbs Organic Basil sold between February 1, 2024, and April 6, 2024. Customers who purchased this product are urged to return it for a full refund.

The FDA investigation into the salmonella outbreak was prompted by 12 reported cases and one hospitalization earlier in the year. Trader Joe’s has been taking proactive measures to ensure food safety, with previous recalls this year including products such as Chicken, Lentil, and Caramelized Onion Pilaf, Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, 50% Less Salt Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews, and various items containing Cotija Cheese due to potential contaminants.
