UK Novel Foods Network Secures $650K to Expand Regulatory Support Into Europe

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) has received $650,000 in funding from Coefficient Giving to expand its Novel Foods Expert Network (NFX UK) into Europe. NFX UK, established in September 2025, has already engaged stakeholders across 14 countries, built a community of over 260 organizations and individuals, and conducted numerous activities with regulators in the UK. The network aims to address regulatory bottlenecks for companies developing novel foods, such as cell-cultivated products and precision-fermented ingredients, by acting as an intermediary between innovators and regulatory bodies.

The funding will allow NFX UK to deepen its activities in the UK and extend its support to novel food developers in the EU, where approval processes have been cited as barriers for companies in the alternative protein sector. Coefficient Giving, formerly known as Open Philanthropy, has backed the network's efforts as part of its interest in accelerating alternative protein development. With the support from Coefficient Giving, RSSL plans to strengthen its role in facilitating faster and more responsible regulatory approvals in Europe and worldwide, ultimately driving systemic change in the industry.
