UK’s First Electric Airline Launches – And It Only Serves Plant-Based Meals

The UK is preparing to launch its first electric airline, Ecojet, powered by renewable energy. The airline will feature several 19-seater airplanes capable of traveling 300 miles, with plans for longer routes and larger planes in the future. While the airplanes will initially run on kerosene-based fuel, they will be retrofitted with engines that can convert green hydrogen into electricity.

Ecojet will prioritize sustainability by only serving plant-based meals onboard, as animal agriculture is a significant producer of greenhouse gases. The airline aims to appeal to a mass market and not just environmentally conscious consumers, with plans to keep costs competitive with other conventional airlines. Vince, the founder of Ecojet, believes the project is a significant step toward creating sustainable air travel and reducing the aviation industry's environmental impact, which accounts for 2.5 percent of global CO2 emissions.
