UK to Provide Direct Support for Cell-Cultivated Food Companies Through New Pilot Service

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) have introduced a new pilot support service to assist companies in the cell-cultivated food sector with UK market authorisation. This initiative aims to ensure that products like cell-grown chicken fillets and beef burgers meet high safety standards before reaching consumers. The service provides pre- and post-submission support, offering guidance on regulatory requirements and helping companies address gaps or questions during the review process.

The service, tailored to the development stage of the product, is available in three tiers based on the stage of development. Prospective applicants must complete a Pre-Submission Enquiry Form to access the support, which includes one-on-one meetings for Tier 1 applicants. By engaging at least six months before application submission, companies can receive timely assistance to navigate the authorisation process, supporting growth in the cell-cultivated food sector and providing consumers with safe food choices.
