Umiami Opens France’s First Commercial-Scale Facility for Plant-Based Whole Cuts

Umiami, a French leader in plant-based whole cuts, has opened its first commercial-scale manufacturing plant in Alsace, Eastern France. The new facility, acquired from Unilever, has an annual production capacity of 7,500 tons with plans to increase to 20,000, and currently employs 53 people. The project was made possible through a €38 million investment, with support from the French government and various investors.

The company, founded in 2020, has raised €100 million in capital and utilizes innovative technology to create realistic alternatives to chicken and fish products. Umiami's plant-based chicken whole cuts are already available in multiple European countries, with plans to expand further. Co-founders Tristan Maurel, Martin Habfast, and Clémence Pedraza expressed gratitude for their partners, teams, and communities as they aim to transform the food industry towards a more sustainable and ethical future in food.
