UK food tech company Upcycled Plant Power (UPP) has received a £1.5 million investment from climate impact seed investor Elbow Beach. UPP produces sustainable protein from previously wasted broccoli crops and its hypoallergenic plant-based proteins are used in a variety of food applications. The funding will be used to scale UPP’s robotic harvesting system, Harvesta, and support the launches of the company’s Prota and Fiba ingredients.

In addition to the investment from Elbow Beach, UPP has received government grants and loans, bringing the total investment round to £3.5 million. The company has recently received ISO 9001 certification for its Harvesta technology, which identifies market-ready broccoli heads in real time. CEO Mark Evans stated that UPP is redefining how plant protein is produced, turning waste into a cost-effective and nutritious food ingredient that supports farmers, manufacturers, and the environment.
