US Senator Cory Booker Says Giant Meat Corporations Must Be ‘Held Accountable’

Booker specifically called out Brazilian meat giant JBS for driving Amazon deforestation and releasing record amounts of methane into the atmosphere. He opposed JBS' plans for an Initial Public Offering on the New York Stock Exchange, leading a bipartisan group of senators to press the SEC to decline the IPO over concerns of corruption and greenwashing. Thanks to this pressure, JBS was forced to delay the listing, indicating progress towards good governance and climate commitments. Booker thanked organizations like Mighty Earth for applying pressure on corporations like JBS and expressed his commitment to ending deforestation and ensuring fair treatment of workers in the industry.
