Vegan Ethiopian Restaurant to Open in Santa Monica
VegOut Magazine • Jul 16, 2021
Berbere, a vegan Ethiopian restaurant, is set to open in Santa Monica later this summer. Founded by a husband and wife duo, Chef Tezeta “Tete” Alemayehu and Tsega-Ab “Bicko” Fenta, the restaurant will offer flavorful stews, veggies, and injera. Alemayehu, who grew up in Ethiopia where she was introduced to plant-based food, immigrated to the US at age 17 and pursued a career in culinary arts. Her first venture, T&T Lifestyle, started as a pop-up serving authentic Ethiopian dishes at local farmer's markets and eventually found a booth at Smorgasburg in Downtown LA.

Berbere, named after the popular Ethiopian spice, will offer a variety of popular dishes from T&T Lifestyle, along with an expanded menu thanks to its larger space in Santa Monica. Alemayehu's passion for sharing the tasty and nutritious food of her Ethiopian culture will be evident in the new restaurant's offerings. Located at 510 Santa Monica Blvd, Berbere is in a prime location close to Third Street Promenade and the beach, making it a must-visit spot for vegan and Ethiopian food enthusiasts alike. Follow @berbere.sm on Instagram for updates on the restaurant's opening.
