Vegan speedskater becomes women’s world champion

American speedskater Kristen Santos-Griswold ended the 2024/25 season as the women’s world champion in short track speedskating. She clinched the top spot in the Women’s Short Track Speedskating World Tour and earned the Crystal Globe after three podium finishes in Milan, Italy. With victories in the women’s 500 meters and 1000 meters, as well as a second-place finish in the 1500 meters, Kristen scored enough points to secure the top spot.

Kristen's success adds to her gold medal at the World Championships and the World Cup, making her one of only two US short track skaters to win gold at all three individual distances in the history of the World Cup. Throughout the season, she earned four golds, four silvers, and one bronze medal, finishing with a total of 1120 points, winning by 170. Kristen, a vegan athlete, expressed being "over the moon" with her accomplishment, showcasing the power of plant-based nutrition in high-performance sports.
