Vegan Vault: Demand for Plant-Based Meals Grows by 40% for Emirates Airlines

Emirates Airlines has seen a 40% increase in demand for plant-based meals, prompting the carrier to add new recipes to its 'vegan vault' of over 300 options. The airline served over 450,000 vegan meals in 2023, a significant increase from the previous year, with the largest rise in consumption occurring in Economy Class. Emirates sources ingredients from global suppliers as well as local producers like Bustanica, the world's largest hydroponic vertical farm, to offer a variety of plant-based meal options to passengers in all classes.

Interest in vegan in-flight meals has been steadily rising, with Emirates catering to passenger demands for healthier and lighter meal choices. The airline has been offering plant-based meals since the 90s, but has recently introduced new gourmet vegan menus for First and Business Class. Other airlines, like Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways, have also been expanding their plant-based meal options, but Emirates stands out with its extensive and diverse vegan menu offerings for passengers flying in various classes.
