German company VEGDOG, known for its plant-based dog food, has entered the cat food market with VEGCAT Pure Bites, snacks made from fermentation-derived protein. These hypoallergenic snacks have a balanced nutrient profile, including essential amino acid taurine, and are easily digestible. The production process involves fermenting biomass with microorganisms to achieve a protein content of 60%, and the snacks are free of artificial colourings, flavourings, and animal proteins, making them suitable for cats with sensitive stomachs.

VEGDOG's expansion into cat food follows its success in the dog food sector, where it raised €9 million in funding and introduced dog treats made from fermentation-derived proteins. Company CEO Tessa Zaune-Figlar expressed excitement about providing healthy plant-based alternatives for pets and emphasized the sustainability and ethical benefits of plant-based diets for cats. The new VEGCAT Pure Bites snacks are now available through VEGDOG's online stores in Germany, Austria, and Italy, presenting a new option for cat owners seeking plant-based pet food options.
