West African-Inspired Vegan Restaurant Ubuntu to Open in LA This August

Ubuntu, a new West African-inspired vegan restaurant, is set to open in Los Angeles this August in the location of the former Avant Garden Bistro on Melrose. The grand opening is scheduled for August 1, with Chef Shenarri “Greens” Freeman, a James Beard Award semifinalist and VegOut Awards nominee, leading the culinary team. The menu will feature traditional dishes from countries such as Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and North Africa, with a focus on showcasing vibrant flavors and inventive plant-based creations.

Complementing the food experience, Ubuntu will offer African-inspired cocktails crafted by mixologist Colin Asare-Appiah and a selection of wines from Black-owned vintners. The restaurant's ambiance will transport guests to a refined garden party setting, with lush greenery, vibrant accents, and natural materials creating a warm and inviting environment. Located on Melrose Avenue, Ubuntu will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 5-10pm, with a special “Soul Food Sundays” dinner service offering a unique dining experience that celebrates the heart of West African cuisine.
