Maple Leaf Foods to Close Two US Plant Protein Sites and Run All Output From Indianapolis

Maple Leaf Foods is closing its plant protein plants in Seattle, Washington, and Turners Falls, Massachusetts, as it aims to transfer all US production for its meat-free brands to its Indianapolis, Indiana facility by Q4 2027. CEO Curtis Frank cited declining demand as the primary reason for the closures and consolidation.

The move is expected to take 12 to 18 months, with the Indianapolis site becoming a "Plant Protein Centre of Excellence" and receiving new investments and additional staff. Despite the closures, Maple Leaf remains committed to the plant protein category and believes consolidating production in Indianapolis will strengthen the foundation of its business and improve profitability in the long term.
